The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms is established. The goal of the Charter is to set out “rights and freedoms that Canadians believe are necessary in a free and democratic society.”1 However, it wasn’t until three years later, in 1985, that the equality of people with disabilities is added to the charter.
