A conference of Cabinet Ministers of the four western provinces led to the decision to develop a specialized hospital in each province.(1) As a result, Alberta built the South Edmonton Home for Mentally Defective Children and within the first year of its operation the home became overcrowded.(2) Eventually many of the children moved to the Provincial Training School.3
